If you run a small business in New Hampshire, you have probably thought about paying for ads. Before you do, check the basics. Good SEO NH work starts with a few fixes that cost little and decide whether a customer searching “[service] + [town]” ever sees your name. Ads send people to a business that is already easy to find. If yours is hard to find, the ad money gets wasted. This is the practical side of small business marketing NH that we start with at CEO Exchange.
The good news is that none of this is a mystery. Here are seven things to fix first.
7 SEO NH fixes to make before you pay for ads
1. Claim and complete your Google Business Profile
This is the listing that appears when someone searches for a service near them. Claim it, then fill it in properly:
- Choose the right main category and any extra categories that truly fit.
- List each service you offer.
- Add real photos of your work, your team and your location.
A half-filled profile tells Google and customers very little.
2. Make every page title say what you do and where
The page title is the headline people see in search results. Here is a made-up example for a plumber:
- Before: Home | Smith & Sons
- After: Plumber in Salem, NH | Smith & Sons Plumbing
The second one tells both a person and a search engine what the business does and where it works. Do the same for every page on your site.
3. Give each main service its own page
If you offer three main services, put each one on its own page rather than one long page covering everything. A customer looking for one service should land on a page about exactly that. Describe what you do, who it is for and which towns you serve.
4. Use one H1 per page
The H1 is the main heading at the top of a page. Each page should have one, and it should match what the page is about. Several competing main headings, or none at all, make the page harder to understand.
5. Keep your name, address and phone the same everywhere
Your business name, address and phone number should read the same on your website, your Google Business Profile and any directory listing. Pick one format and use it every time. For us, that is CEO Exchange, 254 N Broadway #201, Salem, NH 03079, (603) 425-5255. Small differences, like “Suite” in one place and “#” in another, can confuse the picture of who you are.
6. Get found in AI answers (GEO)
More people now ask AI tools for recommendations instead of scrolling through search results. Getting your business mentioned there is called GEO. It builds on the same basics:
- Clear service pages that say plainly what you do and where.
- An FAQ section that answers the questions customers really ask you.
- Local schema, a small piece of code that tells search engines your business details in a form they can read.
7. Track it in Google Search Console
Search Console is free, and it shows how your site is doing in search. Watch three things in order:
- Impressions: how often your pages appear in search.
- Clicks: how often people choose them.
- Positions: where your pages rank for the searches that matter to you.
If impressions are low, people are not seeing you. If impressions are fine but clicks are low, your titles probably need work. Either way, you will know what to fix next instead of guessing.
Then decide about ads
Once these seven items are in place, any ad budget you spend lands on a business that is easier to find and easier to understand. You can learn more about CEO Exchange and the SEO & GEO, digital marketing, social media, video and podcast services we offer from our Salem, NH office.
